Japanese Sitting Buddha (Riverstone)
This Japanese Sitting Buddha is hand-carved from riverstone. His hands are in the traditional Mida no Jōin Meditation Mudra found almost exclusively in Japan and associated specifically with Amida Nyorai. He sits in full lotus pose, while his flowing robe covers most of his body. The style of drapery is reminiscent of the Kamakura Period of Japanese history which covers the 12th-14th centuries.
